The Hutch

Here it is! My latest before/after project: The Hutch.

This baby took me a little longer than my previous refinish projects but isn't it worth the wait! I'm absolutely in love with it. I walk around the room looking at it from different angles and it makes me smile:)

Bunk beds

I think I'm going to get bunk beds for my boys in the spring. Their room is feeling a little squished and I think it will open it up and give them some floor space. When I picture bunk beds, this is the vision I see....

From Zimbio

This is what my boys picture in their sweet little heads.....

From Crayon Castles

But this is closer to the version we will probably get...

From Pottery Barn Kids

And check out this amazing bunk bed....

My Sister is Having a Give-Away!!!!

Check out Amy's vinyl shop, Words & Wisdom and you could win some free vinyl. Now who doesn't want that?

Mmmm, Halloween!!!

Aren't these the cutest, er, I mean scariest cupcakes you've ever seen? I'm so excited to make them! I showed my kids and they were not near as excited as me. Well, too bad for them because they are going to have to make these adorable cupcakes with their mother. Like it or not!

Holiday Decorating

photo found here

Do you decorate for holidays? For every holiday or just your favorites? I used to. I would put up something, either on my walls or table, highlighting the upcoming festivities. I had decorations for every holiday invented. Somewhere along the way I stopped. Now I decorate for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and the occassional Valentine's Day. I think I just got too busy to give each holiday it's very own fanfare. I'm getting a little sad because of this. I'm going to try and mend my ways. I believe that each holiday deserves it's own special time dedicated to it and it alone. None of this Christmas decorating in November. What about Thanksgiving's feelings? Does no one care about Thanksgiving anymore?!? And Halloween decorations as soon as school starts!?! I'm an equal opportunity holiday observer!

I know my children would love to see red, white & blue bunting on the 4th of July, pastel colored eggs at Easter, childbirth photos on Labor Day. (That is why I celebrate Labor Day, don't you?) It is my goal to improve my holiday-decor-slacking ways. Now where did I put that box of Columbus Day decorations?

Sustainable Furniture

These Zaishu slot-together seat/tables are made from Australian hoop pine, which is a native Australian sustainable wood. They are silk-screened or hand painted with water-based inks and then varnished, also water-based. The stools come packaged flat in a reusable cotton bag. I'm loving the unique art work and functionality. Beauty + Function = Amazing!

Go Big Blue (and Orange)!!!!

Found here

Around here blue and orange is a common combination. Just walk around Boise on a BSU game day and all you'll see is blue and orange. Using that color pairing as inspiration, I found several rooms that pull it together beautifully. The colors are opposite on the color wheel so they compliment each other perfectly. The blue calms the brightness of the orange and the orange brings out the brilliance in the blue. And how can you not love orange? It's my favorite color.
